If you’ve been following the Ideal Protein protocol, you may be wondering why it isn’t called the Ideal Protein and Salad protocol! (Perhaps that's too much of a mouthful.)
Q: "So, why does Ideal Protein call for so much salad?" you ask.
A: (Thanks for asking.) Eating lots of salad helps you reach your weight loss goals while gaining health.
· Salads can fill you up with lots of nutrients not found in other foods without a lot of calories.
· Crunchy foods tend to satisfy.
· Salads provide fiber (absent from too many processed foods) to help keep your digestive system working.
Eating lots of salad is also a ‘lifestyle thing’. When you start a meal with salad, you have less room for not-so-healthy things. This helps you be less likely to go back for second helpings.
I make my own salad dressing. My current favorite is a Creamy Lemon Dressing. It’s fresh, simple, and tastes great on fresh and roasted veggies. Here’s the recipe:
· 1 ½ Tbsp lemon juice
· ½ tsp ground cumin
· ½ tsp ground coriander
· 1 clove garlic minced or pressed
· 1/3 cup olive oil
· salt & pepper to taste
Combine all the ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
